About us

Social Women and Resilience Organization (SWRO) is a women-led, community-driven organization dedicated to empowering Somali women and girls to overcome social, economic, and protection challenges. Established to address the growing vulnerabilities faced by women—especially in fragile, conflict-affected, and climate-stressed communities—SWRO works to strengthen resilience, expand opportunities, and promote meaningful participation of women in community development and decision-making processes.

Social Women and Resilience Organization (SWRO) is established in 2020 to empower women, youth, and vulnerable communities across Somalia. Headquartered in Kismayo with sub-offices in Baidoa and Mogadishu, SWRO focuses on promoting gender equality, resilience, and sustainable development through community-based initiatives. The organization works with internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities to improve livelihoods, enhance access to education and health services, and strengthen local capacities for self-reliance.

SWRO’s core areas of intervention include women’s empowerment, livelihood support, WASH, education, protection, and community resilience. By adopting a participatory and rights-based approach, the organization ensures that communities actively engage in identifying their priorities and implementing solutions that lead to lasting impact. Through partnerships with government institutions, civil society, and development agencies, SWRO continues to promote inclusive development, economic empowerment, and social justice helping build resilient and self-sufficient communities across Somalia.
